dal primo apparire della Commedia dell'Arte, Ragonda rappresenta
una delle forme prese dal personaggio della fantesca. Donna
solitamente ormai matura e per questo esperta nei fatti della
vita, la fantesca era a servizio di una padrona, sempre pronta
a cavarla d'impaccio e a favorirne con inganni e sotterfugi
le relazioni amorose, lecite o illecite che fossero. Il suo
linguaggio era schietto e mai volgare, i suoi discorsi pungenti
e pieni di buon senso e saggezza.
Secondo la tradizione il costume di scena era molto semplice:
un'ampia gonna sormontata da un grembiale e stretta in vita
da una fascia, una camicia e una piccola cuffia a ricoprire
il capo.

the very beginning of the Commedia dell’Arte, Ragonda
was one of several masks modelled on the figure of a maidservant.
Usually a mature woman and well acquainted with the ways of
the world, she serves a mistress whom she is ready to help out
of trouble and is particularly skilled at helping her mistress
when she is rejected by the man she loves. She does not mince
her words, she is never vulgar and shows herself full of common
sense and wisdom.
Traditionally her costume is a simple one; a large gathered
skirt with an apron tied tight round her waist, a blouse and
a small cap.
